Solid Rocket Boosters Complete

Solid Rocket Boosters Complete

Another amazing achievement in Go for Stack this week: the placement of two Forward Assemblies to complete the Solid Rocket Boosters. More than just nose cones, these 27-foot-tall, 10,000-pound components held the avionics, forward separation motors and drogue and main parachutes for each booster.

A 450-foot crane hoisted the assemblies while the California Science Center team climbed MANY flights of scaffolding to guide and secure each one with 195 metal pins. Check out the great video on the California Science Center’s Instagram and YouTube, and buckle up for the next big installation – the giant External Tank.
