In January, EVD took our first hard hat tour of the New Burke. At that point, one could literally “see through the walls.” It was very exciting to navigate the columns, studs, rebar, and newly poured cement in the emerging building, although it took a lot of imagination to understand what goes where!

During our April Workshop we took a second walk through the new museum building – it’s come a long way in three months! Now you can really appreciate the gallery spaces, floor-through skylights, and views from various windows.

The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County was recently profiled on Treasures of New York, a local PBS documentary series.  The episode features interviews with educators and survivors with whom we collaborated to create the small but powerful core exhibition, one of Evidence Design’s earliest projects. It is wonderful to see the Center thriving with robust programming and new artifacts that provide visceral evidence of the horrific events of the Holocaust. We congratulate the HMTC on its continued efforts to combat prejudice and intolerance and are very proud to have played a role in this important work. The episode may be found on the PBS Website.

We are delighted to announce that Science Storms was named one of the twenty most influential exhibit designs of this century by the Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD). The groundbreaking exhibit received a 2011 SEGD Merit Award, among numerous recognitions, and continues to draw crowds and accolades six years after its opening. We are immensely proud of our work with the Museum of Science and Industry Chicago (MSI), an institutional leader in the creation of innovative, compelling exhibit experiences. In fact, three exhibits at MSI were recognized by SEGD as most influential in the last 16 years: Science Storms, U-505, and YOU! The Experience. CONGRATULATIONS!

After everybody got a few hours sleep, the move continued this morning. We now have ET-94 in its temporary storage location beside the Pavilion housing Endeavour, although the movers still need to disconnect and remove the dollies from the strongback (will be done tomorrow). Permanent fence will go up Tuesday, then we will begin restoring the tank so that it can take its place in the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center supporting Endeavour.

The move started at midnight from Marina del Rey and arrived at Exposition Park about 19:00 … weather was perfect. Move went without incident. A surprising number of people turn out to watch. The crew was too tired to finish the move and will return Saturday to accomplish the last 500 feet and spot the tank in its temporary parking spot.

On May 20, 2016, more than 500 people – elected officials, Burke and University of Washington staff, tribal leaders and local school children – gathered to celebrate the ground breaking of the New Burke, a new facility for the Washington State Museum of Natural History and Culture planned to open in 2019. Evidence Design is pleased to be collaborating with the curatorial and collections teams, museum managers and architects at OKA to realize the museum’s “inside-out” vision, which will integrate exhibits and learning areas with visible labs and collections storage

May 18, 2016

Shannan Dann arrived at the Marina Del Rey breakwater on schedule at 0600 and was at the offload area about 0800. We cut the welds holding the transporter to the barge, released the chains, and rolled-off the Gulfmaster I amid much pomp and circumstance. ET-94 is resting comfortably in the parking lot at Fisherman’s Village and Shannon Dann and Gulfmaster I are in San Pedro being readied for their return to New Orleans via the Panama Canal. The move through the streets will take place on Saturday!

Shannon Dann and Gulfmaster I, carrying ET-94, departed the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal in San Diego at 07:30 this morning, making for Marina del Rey. ETA at the breakwater in Marina del Rey is 06:00 Wednesday, 18 May.

May 16, 2016

Spent the day preparing Gulfmaster I and Shannon Dann for the off-load in Marina del Rey. This involved removing some of the equipment from the barge we had installed for the Panama Canal, and then installing the hinge plates for the ramps that will bridge the distance between the barge and the sea wall in the Marina. Shannon Dann also got spiffed up with a new coat of paint.

Departing 0800 on Tuesday; ETA Marina del Rey, 06:00 on Wednesday.
